Bouillon Julien
About This Spot
Stepping into Bouillon Julien is like slipping into a cherished Parisian memory. Nestled on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, this brasserie welcomes you into an artful embrace where time seems to slow. The atmosphere hums gently with an old-world elegance — intricate stained glass ceilings cast colored light over gleaming mirrors and detailed plasterwork, while delicately painted murals whisper stories from a bygone era. It’s a place that invites you to linger, soaking in the quiet romance of 1900s Art Nouveau design as much as the meal itself.
Here, the pace is unhurried and warm. Diners settle into deep banquettes or gather at rustic wooden tables, sharing moments over simple but thoughtfully prepared food that recalls the comforting rhythms of a grandparent’s kitchen. The menu embraces familiar French classics with a straightforward sincerity — from velvety beef broth infused with subtle notes of coriander and lemongrass, to rich terrines and satisfying plates of bavette with shallots. Each dish sings with heart, unlocking flavors that feel both local and timeless.
Service flows with genuine kindness and attentiveness, quietly weaving everyone into the fabric of this lively but intimate room. The gentle murmur of conversations blends with the clink of glasses and soft footsteps, all under the watchful gaze of Parisian history etched around you. Whether you're here for a casual lunch that hints at the everyday life of the city or an evening that charms with its classic atmosphere, Bouillon Julien offers a simple yet profound invitation to connect—with the food, the space, and the people beside you.

A Timeless Parisian Experience at Bouillon Julien If you're looking for a truly Parisian dining experience, Bouillon Julien is an absolute gem. The interior is nothing short of breathtaking — ornate mirrors, intricate plasterwork, stained glass ceilings, and elegant murals create an atmosphere that feels both historic and romantic. It's like dining inside a work of art. The food was exactly what you'd hope for in a classic French bistro — authentic, comforting, and delicious. I ordered the escargots, which were perfectly cooked and served with a fragrant garlic and herb butter. Rich, flavorful, and so satisfying. I also had the French onion soup, which was incredibly tasty — deeply caramelized onions, a rich broth, and that perfect cheesy crouton topping. Simple dishes, done exactly right. On top of all this, the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the location, quality, and ambience. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy traditional French cuisine without breaking the bank. Whether you're a tourist looking for an iconic Parisian meal or a local wanting a reliable spot for comfort food, Bouillon Julien delivers on every level. Can’t recommend it enough.

As a “ Art Nouveau “lover and appreciative person I am , this one of my highlights from our Paris trip!! The inside is amazing and had been in business since 1906!! Just amazing architecture , detail etc, we got reservations around 7 and by the time we were done was a long line outside, the food menu is simple and not elaborated, we loved our dishes , the server was very friendly and polite with us … love this place again!

It was really nice place, not amazing but good food. I was expecting a bit more meat on there special but that make sense because of the price. So i had to order another dish to get full. Its the place youre gonna eat food like your grandma food and it feels so local but its not something extra ordinary. Its really normal and local please. Overall was good, the servers were really active and nice even with the crowd, i didnt wait long for anything.

We enjoyed everything about our experience dining here! The room is exquisite. Varied, inexpensive menu. Friendly service. Delicious food. Perfect place to spend a few hours. My duck breast and roast potatoes were delicious (€13). The chicken and chips wonderful (€12), and the chocolate mousse was dense, rich, silky and moreish. Definitely worth a visit or 2.

We wanted to experience an authentic French affordable restaurant, so we get what we came for. The meal was average to my Indonesian taste, the service was OK, but our meal somehow came super late (dissapointed on this part) The highlight was the interior though, takes you back to superb 20's Art Nouveau There was no Asian customers whatsoever during our visit, mostly French and American. It's worth to try if you are around St. Denis/ Les Marais.

Tuesday, 23 December 2025 at 17H Leeks with hazelnut vinaigrette: 3,90 € Salmon sauerkraut, beurre blanc: 14 € Dessert Julien, rum and raisin: 4,90 € Food: 3/5 Good. The leeks were quite tough and fibrous. I found them difficult to cut with the provided cutlery. The salmon and sauerkraut were delicious. I was delightfully surprised by the taste combination. I found the dessert Julian to be quite dry, and any hint of rum or raisin flavors were too smothered in chocolate. Service: 4/5 Very Good. The servers were polite and professional. However, I did not appreciate that I was assumptively given an English menu. Yes, I have a strong English accent when I speak French, but I read and speak French fluently. I prefer to be asked, rather than just given. I would have preferred a French menu. Ambience: 5/5 Excellent. The beautifully restored and elaborate Art Nouveau interior design is worth a visit. The woodwork has scrolling vines that bloom into délicate flowers. It truly captures the dining essence of 1890s Paris. An architectural gem! Cleanliness: 5/5 Excellent. The tables and floors were clean and presentable. Value: 4/5 Very Good. I was satisfied by the quantity of food, but the quality could improve. I know many people would disagree because of the low pricing but I have eaten better for a similar price in the tourist Latin Quarter or in working neighborhood of Ménilmontant. I was satisfied but not delighted. Overall: 4.2/5 Very Good. This is a respectable boullion establishment that everyone should try at least once. Perhaps I was just unlucky with my starter and dessert? I am open to returning again if I selected something different. However, for now, I sadly cannot say this is a new favorite restaurant to add to my slowly growing list. I was so hopeful. Maybe next time.

Ate here on my final night in Paris. I learned about this spot on Pinterest, and decided to take a gamble on it. I definitely recommend making a reservation, as the line to get in was massive, and it was lovely to be able to bypass it. The decor is absolutely stunning! Pictures do not do it justice. The food is very affordable, so this is a wonderful option for luxe vibes on a tight budget.
